Ready to swap city life for nature? Join me for my unforgettable experience at Camp Monk Bannerghatta!
This probably is the most real time write up I have ever made about an experience and breaking the long streak of no post days. Just like any other place, I wanted to keep this aside to write some other time but felt like I should try posting an immediate experience note. This was a much-needed break, from the mostly routine office/home life that we have been doing. If you are stuck in Bangalore traffic and your daily teams calls just like us on most of your days, read on as you may find this place, the most relaxing for a quick weekend unwinding. Let us go to Bannerghatta!
Bannerghatta.
When we talk about Bannerghatta, the first thing that comes to one’s mind is the vast green cover just an hour away from the hustles of Bangalore city, where you break the norms of experiencing the wildlife with the cards reversed, humans in the cage and animals roaming around in “their natural habitat”. To me Bannerghatta quickly reminds me of the vibes it gave me on my first visit, that of Jurassic Park, where a huge Arch welcomes you to the laps of wilderness. Only the completely automatic cars and of course the prehistoric creatures are the missing points from the equation.
But often Bannerghatta is crowded just like any other place which makes you wonder where all these people live! Sometimes you need a break from all the crowd and just want to be with the nature. Well, Bangaloreans has got a nice place just for this purpose, at a 15mins drive from the famous Bannerghatta National Park. Welcome to Camp Monk Bannerghatta Lake Camping.

About the Camp.
The place has been in my Wishlist ever since it first showed up in my Instagram feeds and ads and this time, we took the step and booked a stay in Camp Monk. It was all a quick decision where we started looking for a booking only a day prior to our stay dates which not recommended at all. Luckily, we got ourselves one of the most unique stay experiences. A night in a camper van.
Set up on the banks of 40 acres of Lake, the camp is inside a 14-acre plantation. You get to choose from a range of stay options such as container homes, cute little wooden cottages, some classy black wooden cottages and of course tents, camper vans and caravans. On a normal year when the lake is full, you get to go kayaking, but the weather is showing its faces on us this time of the year when our host informed us that the current water level is the least ever happened in 7 years. Climate change!
The place was so peaceful, green, and beautiful. So peaceful that forced me to write this blog right away without any further delays. We were told by our host Mr. Vinay that the camp is so close to the Bannerghatta Safari route that when time is right and silent, we could even hear the lion’s roar from the park. Fingers crossed for that.
The route here was screaming wildlife as we could see animal crossing boards at several places. Highly recommended to cover the route in a bike to satisfy your inner rider. Vinay also told us that, where we are camping right now used to be a place of high Man-Wildlife conflict area, a few years back but because of the recent developments and the new CRPF canine facility between the national park and the property, the animal activity is contained within the park vicinity itself. More reason for added thrill and worry. Nevertheless, the camp is a completely fenced property with guard on watch round the clock and a bunch of nice people taking care of the property just a call away.
Things to do.
Other activities in the camp include cycling, DIY fishing and barbeque which are all charged additionally. You get a complete camping experience in the camper van package where you will be provided a camping stove, some basic utensils, and materials to make your own tea/coffee and an option to do your own cooking if you have the items to cook with you. Otherwise, food is covered by the kitchen in the camp at an additional cost of 400+ per head per meal for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is complementary.
Camp fire in the night is an amazing vibe with some live music. The place is kids and pets friendly and is a great place to break away from your daily routine and have some quality time with your loved ones. What's more, take a short walk through the plantation, watch birdies and listen to the sound of nature.
